Well I really encourage you to try it one of these days. It's important to work on things outside of your comfort zone sometimes - especially a subject as broad and important as male figures. Trust me, you'll learn a whole lot. And who knows, you might even take a shining to it after a while.

yeah, i know. I already started with sketches and with some books about proper anatomy. Its not really that hard, i mean, its hard, just not how much i expected Atm i don't feel like im going to color any of them, just doodling around to get "sense" of the figure, i guess later on when i start with color, it will be easier to find and fix mistakes. Since i abandoned that mermaid drawing, i'll finish the one that im working on atm and then pick one sketch that i find most appealing and color it hopefully it won't be big fail XD

speaking of fail... at 50% of siren painting i flattened all layer to see how it will look with some color adjustments, and to see the next day that i actually saved that flatten version instead of, well the one with layers -____________-... that was enough to kill my inspiration and desire to continue with work on that picture :S well, i did tried to fix it, but now it looks like someone took a bucket full of rainbow colors and spill it on top of it :S grrrrrrr b/w version looks a little better........

and bw

I hate that when it happens. Happened to me last year in one of my artworks. I was 'done' when I merged it though but then I noticed stuff that are wrong but couldn't do anything to fix anymore.

Still love the colors though. She looks magical I wouldnt even think you merged the entire thing accidentally.

Oh god, I can't remember how many times I've done that flatten/preview mistake... Huge paranoia kicks in whenever I decide to preview things that way - I end up saving two files just to make sure I don't muck things up.

Anyways, I definitely wasn't expecting a mermaid design. Pretty cool though - like those scale/pearl designs on her arms a lot. Not entirely sure about that one long eyebrow of hers in comparison to the other which has that really interesting scale design on top.

P.S. I'm sure it's not just me who would also like to see how you handle male char designs :x

Usually if I want to preview something when it's flattened, I make a new, empty layer, and use Apply Image. Creates a flattened layer of everything, but doesn't actually merge all of the layers under it.

@Mina i actually merge layers quite often, im trying to keep max layers around 10-20. But i guess its better this way, i just got quite upset when i started to work on it. Had huge problems with that pose, and then nothing went like i wanted it to. Usually when that happens, art block follows... BUT it didn't as soon as i scraped that picture i got an idea on what to paint next ^^

well, that was one of the reasons i decided to let this one go unfinished :P

and yes, as soon as i finish picture im working on atm (wip in spoiler below), i'll paint some dudes Btw, do you think its better to start with some fan art, or to paint something original?

@Verene ty for the tip, i never do that (... unfortunately >_< )

And wip of my new painting:

Its a version 2 of one of my older drawings (Sand). I found out that i can just skip artist block if i go and paint newer versions of my older drawings. Its quite inspiring to see difference between them ^^

Its not exactly the same as "Sand", i wanted similar character with more complex background and idea. This is Persian leopard, but it looks more like snow leopard because of the fur, it should be more thicker and not so fluffy (its so fluffy im gonna die...)

also, i think she will be my main OC ^^

I feel your pain about the picture - but it's a cool idea and you can always re-visit it later

I felt the same way on my Xaquang Skyway pic after I realized I flattened it, and unknowingly started to paint on top of it. I'm sure this little gif summarizes both of our feelings when we realized our mistake:

And as for the choice between fan-art or original - maybe fanart first. It's always easy picking interesting subjects from something you love.

Thanks guys *hug*

@Charlie lol, exactly like that XD

and yeah, i was thinking about how fan art would be easier, because i don't need to worry much about design and just put all of my attention on anatomy. Now i just need to find some volunteers lol, will check that art database topic later, to see if anyone actually posted some male characters XD

The WIP already shows how much you've improved compared to the original one and it's not even finished! XD
